DESIGNING HEALTHY STRUCTURES

We design sustainable structures using organic + natural forms from the geometry of nature.

NATURE INSPIRED DESIGN + HIGH PERFORMANCE BUILDING

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

People believe that all things organic must be good - but that does not apply to materials used in the thermal envelope of a building.

While wood and other organic materials are often featured in images of biophilic design, wood framing is susceptible to termites, beetles and fungi/mold leading to structural damage and environmental illness.

Inorganic materials such as stone, clay and earth do not take part in the carbon cycle and do not provide food for organisms. They provide superior thermal mass, climate resilience, and extra durability.

We use the geometry and proportions of nature to create custom architectural designs. By using forms that are already a part of our genetic code, we create harmonious environments that provide shelter and delight for hundreds of years.

Whether rectilinear, biomorphic, or based on regional styles, we take into account the geometry of the site and patterns of daily life.

We believe in nature as the ultimate source of inspiration.

SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

ALIGNMENT WITH NATURE

True sustainability looks at many factors - the life cycle of the building, the carbon footprint, passive methods of heating, cooling and ventilating the building, the amount of maintenance and repair over time, and the depletion of natural resources.

We believe that in order to be truly sustainable, buildings should be temporary and mobile or built to last a minimum of 200 years. We tend to think of buildings only in terms of our own life span, but sustainability asks that we look ahead many generations.

We take into account locally available materials, supply chains, and site conditions.
